How to Add Text to a PDF for Free

Insert text boxes, labels, and annotations into a PDF document for free. Works in any browser, no software required.

Adding new text to a PDF — filling in blank fields, adding labels, writing in margins — can be done with annotation tools. FixMyPDF's annotation tool lets you add text boxes anywhere on a PDF page.

Adding a Text Box

Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/add-comments. Upload the PDF. Select the Text Box annotation tool. Click on the page where you want to add text. Type your text. Adjust font size and colour if needed. Reposition by dragging. Download.

Filling in PDF Forms

For PDF forms with form fields, your browser's built-in PDF viewer (Chrome, Edge, Safari) can fill in interactive form fields directly without any additional tool. Open the PDF in your browser tab and click in the form fields to type.

Adding Text to Image PDFs

Scanned documents are image PDFs with no interactive fields. To add text on top of a scanned image PDF, use the text box annotation — the text appears as an overlay on the image.

Permanent Text vs Annotation Layer

Text boxes added as annotations can be edited in annotation-aware viewers. Use the flatten tool to embed the text permanently as part of the page — making it part of the page image and not removable.
