How to Compress a PDF on iPhone (No App Download)

Reduce PDF file size on iPhone or iPad directly in Safari — no app install, no iCloud required. Free, private, and works offline after load.

The App Store has dozens of PDF compressor apps, but most require a subscription or send your files to a server. FixMyPDF runs entirely in Safari on your iPhone or iPad — no download, no account, and your PDF never leaves your device.

Open Safari and Go to the Compressor

Open Safari on your iPhone and navigate to fixmypdf.in/tools/compressor. The page is fully mobile-optimised — buttons and controls are touch-friendly and the layout adapts to your screen size. No "Request Desktop Site" needed.

Select Your PDF from Files App

Tap "Select PDF File" and iOS will open the Files app picker. You can choose a PDF from iCloud Drive, On My iPhone storage, or any third-party storage app like Google Drive or Dropbox that's connected to Files. The PDF loads directly into the browser.

Pick Your Compression Strength

Select Low, Medium, or High compression. Medium is the best starting point for most PDFs — it reduces size by 40–60% while keeping text sharp and photos acceptable. If you're sending to WhatsApp or email (which have file size limits), try High compression first.

Download to iPhone

Tap "Compress PDF" and then "Download" when the result is ready. Safari will save the file to your Downloads folder (accessible via the Files app under Browse → Downloads). From there you can AirDrop, email, or share via any app.

Why PDFs Are Large on iPhone

When you scan documents with your iPhone camera or use the Notes app scanner, the resulting PDF embeds full-resolution HEIC images — often 3–8 MB per page. Our compressor re-encodes these at a controlled JPEG quality, typically shrinking a 20 MB scanned PDF to under 3 MB.

Does It Work on iPad?

Yes — the tool works identically on iPad with Safari or Chrome. On larger iPad screens you'll see the full layout. You can also use Split View on iPad to have the compressor open in one half while reviewing the PDF in Files or Books in the other half.

Other PDF Tasks on iPhone

Need more than compression? You can merge PDFs on iPhone, split a PDF to extract specific pages, or fix upside-down scanned pages — all from the same browser tab, no app required.
