How to Merge PDF Files Without Uploading to a Server
Combine PDFs privately in your browser — no server upload, no data leaving your device. Fully private merge for confidential documents.
Every time you upload PDFs to an online merge service, you're trusting that company with your data. FixMyPDF merges PDFs entirely in your browser — the files are read from your device, combined in memory, and the result is downloaded back. Nothing ever touches a server.
Why Server-Based Merging Is a Privacy Risk
When you upload documents to a server-based PDF merger, the files pass through that company's infrastructure. Their retention policies, security practices, and legal jurisdiction all become your concern. For contracts, legal documents, HR files, or anything marked confidential, this is an unnecessary risk.
How Our Local Merge Works
Our tool uses pdf-lib — an open-source JavaScript library that runs entirely inside your browser tab. When you select files and click Merge, the JavaScript reads them from your local filesystem, combines the page trees in memory, and triggers a browser download. No HTTP request carrying your PDF data is made.
Verify It Yourself with Browser DevTools
Open Chrome or Firefox DevTools (F12 → Network tab) before clicking Merge. After merging, inspect the network log. You'll see requests only for static assets (the tool's JavaScript and CSS files) — no request containing your PDF data is sent outbound.
Works on Any Device, Any Browser
The same local processing applies whether you're on a Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android phone, or Linux computer. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge all support the WebAPIs required. No browser extension needed.
Merging Sensitive Document Types
Legal contracts, medical records, financial statements, HR evaluations, NDAs — all document types that you'd never want to upload to a third-party server can be safely merged using our tool. The sensitivity of the documents doesn't matter since nothing leaves your device.
Other Private PDF Operations
Our entire toolset follows the same no-upload principle: compress, split, rotate, password-protect, and unlock — all happen locally. Your PDFs stay on your device.
