How to Resize PDF Pages (Change Page Size to A4, Letter, etc.)
Scale PDF pages to a standard size — A4, Letter, A3, Legal — online for free. Resize all or specific pages without losing quality.
PDFs sometimes come in non-standard page sizes that don't print correctly or look wrong in page layout. FixMyPDF's resize tool scales pages to A4, Letter, A3, or any custom size while fitting the content proportionally — free, in your browser.
Resize vs Crop — Key Difference
Resizing scales the entire page content to fit a new page dimension — nothing is removed, just scaled. Cropping removes content from the edges to achieve a smaller page size. Use Resize when you want to change the output paper size while keeping all content. Use Crop when you want to cut away margins or unwanted edges.
How to Resize PDF Pages
Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/resize. Upload your PDF. Select the target size: A4 (297×210mm), Letter (8.5×11in), A3 (420×297mm), Legal (8.5×14in), or enter custom dimensions. Click "Resize PDF". Download the result with all pages at the new size.
Resizing to A4 from Letter (and Vice Versa)
A4 and Letter are close in size but different in proportions — A4 is taller and narrower, Letter is shorter and wider. When resizing between them, content is scaled proportionally with small margins added to fill the size difference. For most documents, this is invisible. For very precise layouts, crop after resizing to remove the added margins.
Scaling Up — Enlarging to A3
If you need to print a presentation or document at A3 (double A4 size), resize from A4 to A3 — all content is scaled up 141% (√2 factor). Text and vector graphics remain crisp since PDFs store them as mathematical outlines. Raster images may show some quality loss at the enlarged size.
Custom Page Dimensions
Beyond standard paper sizes, you can enter any custom width and height in millimetres or points. This is useful for creating PDFs at specific display sizes (e.g., 1920×1080px for screens) or for document management systems that require specific page dimensions.
Maintaining Aspect Ratio
The tool scales content proportionally by default, adding thin margins to fill any size difference. This prevents text and images from being stretched or squashed. If you specifically want to stretch content to fill the new page (non-proportional), an "Stretch to fill" option is available.
After Resizing
Resized PDFs are ready to print at the new size. If the file is large after scaling up (due to image quality requirements), use our PDF compressor to reduce size. To number the resized pages, use our page numbers tool.
