How to Invert PDF Colors Free (Dark Mode PDF)

Invert a PDF's colours to create a dark mode version — white background becomes black, text becomes white. Free, no software.

FixMyPDF's invert tool converts a white-background PDF to a dark-background version — ideal for reading in low light without straining your eyes.

What Colour Inversion Does

Every pixel colour is mathematically inverted (255 − original value). White (255, 255, 255) becomes black (0, 0, 0). Black text (0, 0, 0) becomes white (255, 255, 255). Colours are replaced by their complements. The result is a dark-background version of the original document.

Steps

Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/invert-pdf. Upload the PDF. Click Invert. Download the dark-mode version.

Best Suited Documents

Textbooks and academic papers for late-night study. Technical documentation for extended reading sessions. Reference manuals used in dark environments.

Limitations

Colour photographs look unnatural when inverted — they become photo-negatives. Inversion works best on documents with primarily text and simple graphics. For photo-heavy PDFs, selective inversion is not available — the entire page is inverted.
