How to Add a Watermark to a PDF on Mac (Free, No Acrobat)
Add text or image watermarks to a PDF on Mac in Safari or Chrome — no Adobe Acrobat required. Set opacity, size, and position freely.
Mac's Preview can't add watermarks to PDFs natively. FixMyPDF's watermark tool runs in Safari or Chrome on Mac and lets you add text watermarks (CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, your company name) or image watermarks with full control over position, size, opacity, and colour.
Open the Watermark Tool in Safari or Chrome
Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/watermark-pdf on your Mac. Upload your PDF by clicking "Select PDF" or dragging from Finder. The tool processes everything locally on your Mac.
Choose Text or Image Watermark
For a text watermark: type your text (e.g., "CONFIDENTIAL", "DRAFT", your company name), choose font size, colour, and opacity. For an image watermark: upload a logo or stamp image (PNG with transparent background works best). Select which you want to use.
Set Position and Opacity
Choose where the watermark appears: centre, diagonal (most common for "CONFIDENTIAL" stamps), or any corner. Set opacity from 10% (barely visible) to 100% (fully opaque). A diagonal centre watermark at 30–40% opacity is the standard for confidential document stamps.
Apply to All Pages or Selected Pages
By default, the watermark applies to all pages. If you only need the watermark on certain pages (e.g., only the cover page, or only pages with sensitive data), you can specify page ranges before applying.
Download the Watermarked PDF
Click "Add Watermark" and the watermarked PDF downloads to your Mac's Downloads folder. Open it in Preview to verify the watermark appears correctly on each page before distributing.
Use Cases for PDF Watermarks on Mac
Common Mac workflows: adding "DRAFT" to documents sent for review (removed from the final version); stamping "CONFIDENTIAL" on PDFs sent to external parties; adding a company logo watermark to presentations shared with clients; watermarking photographs or designs shared for approval before final delivery.
Removing Watermarks
If you've added a watermark and need to remove it, our PDF editing tools may help, or you can regenerate the original without the watermark. For watermarks added by others, removal depends on how the watermark was embedded.
