How to Password Protect a PDF on iPhone (Free)

Add a password to a PDF on your iPhone using Safari — no app required. AES encryption applied locally.

iPhone does not have a built-in PDF encryption tool. FixMyPDF's protect tool runs in Safari on iPhone — upload your PDF from Files, set a password, download the encrypted version.

Steps on iPhone

Open Safari on your iPhone. Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/protect. Tap Choose File. Select your PDF from Files. Enter a strong password. Tap Protect. The encrypted PDF downloads to Files → Downloads.

Where Does the File Go?

On iPhone, downloaded files go to the Files app under On My iPhone → Downloads. From there you can share via Mail, WhatsApp, AirDrop, or any other app.

Use Case: Sending Sensitive Documents

Before sharing a PDF containing personal information (ID documents, financial records, medical results), protect it with a password and send the password via a separate message. This protects the content even if the message thread is accessed.

Processing Is Local

The encryption runs in your iPhone's browser. The PDF is not uploaded to any server. Only your device processes and encrypts the document.
