How to Password Protect a PDF on Mac Free

Add a password to a PDF on Mac using Preview or FixMyPDF. Both methods explained.

On Mac you can add a PDF password via Preview or FixMyPDF in Safari.

Method 1: Mac Preview

File → Export as PDF. Check "Encrypt". Enter a password. Click Save.

Method 2: FixMyPDF

Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/protect. Upload. Set password. Download the encrypted PDF.

Difference

Both create 128-bit or 256-bit encrypted PDFs. FixMyPDF gives you additional options like permissions (restrict printing/copying) that Preview's export dialog does not offer.
