How to Remove the Author Name From a PDF (Free)

Delete the author name from a PDF's metadata before sharing. Free, private, runs in your browser.

PDFs often contain the author's computer username or full name in the Author metadata field. FixMyPDF's metadata remover strips this completely before you share the document.

Why Remove the Author Name

Business documents: you may not want to reveal the individual who drafted a contract or proposal. Legal documents: anonymising authorship before court filing. Public PDFs: protecting personal privacy when publishing documents online. Ghost-writing: removing attribution when the nominal author differs from the drafter.

Steps

Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/metadata-remover. Upload the PDF. Click Remove Metadata — all fields including Author, Title, Creator, Producer, and dates are cleared. Download the anonymised PDF.

Alternative: Edit Rather Than Remove

If you want to set a different author name (e.g. a company name instead of an individual), use the metadata editor to change the Author field rather than removing it entirely.

What Metadata Removal Does Not Do

Removing metadata does not remove the document content, watermarks, or embedded author names that appear as visible text in the document itself. Only the metadata properties are cleared.
