How to Unlock a Password-Protected PDF on Mac Free
Remove the password from a PDF on Mac — in Safari or using Preview. Free, takes under a minute.
Mac has two free options for unlocking PDFs: Preview (built-in) and FixMyPDF in Safari.
Using Preview to Unlock on Mac
Open the PDF in Preview (it will ask for the password). Enter the password. Go to File → Export as PDF. In the export dialog, uncheck "Encrypt" (if checked). Save. The exported PDF is unencrypted.
Using FixMyPDF to Unlock on Mac
Open Safari. Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/unlock. Upload the PDF. Enter the password. Download the unlocked version. Useful if you want to strip the password without the additional steps of Preview export.
Which to Use
Preview is slightly faster if you are already on a Mac and the file is local. FixMyPDF is useful on any OS and for batch workflows where you need a consistent approach.
