How to Sign a PDF on Windows (Free, No Acrobat)
Add a signature to a PDF on Windows 10 or 11 in Chrome or Edge — draw, type, or upload a signature image. No software install required.
Windows' Edge browser can add a drawn signature to a PDF via its Markup tools — but it's limited to drawing only and doesn't let you upload a signature image or type a signature. FixMyPDF's sign tool in Chrome offers all three options for free.
Edge's Built-In Signature vs FixMyPDF
Open a PDF in Edge, click the Draw button in the toolbar, and you can draw directly on the PDF with a mouse — works for basic signatures. Limitations: no typed signature option, no image upload, no resize handle, and the result is a drawn annotation rather than a proper embedded signature.
Open Chrome and Load the Sign Tool
Go to fixmypdf.in/tools/pdf-sign in Chrome or Edge on Windows. Upload your PDF. The signature tool loads with three options: draw, type, or upload.
Using Your Mouse to Draw a Signature
Click "Draw" and use your mouse to sign in the drawing canvas. Mouse-drawn signatures rarely look as good as a stylus or trackpad — for a better result, draw your signature on paper, photograph it, and use the "Upload" option instead.
Uploading a Signature Image on Windows
For the best looking result on Windows (where most users have a mouse, not a touchscreen): sign your name on white paper, photograph it with your phone, and transfer the photo to your PC. In the sign tool, click "Upload" and select the photo. The tool removes the white background automatically.
Typing a Signature on Windows
Click "Type", enter your full name, and choose from several cursive/handwriting fonts. This is the quickest method and looks professional for most business contexts — widely accepted for contracts, approvals, and formal emails.
Position and Download
Drag the signature to the correct position on the PDF. Resize by dragging the corner handles. Click "Download Signed PDF" — it saves to your Windows Downloads folder. Open in Edge to verify the signature appears correctly before sending.
After Signing on Windows
Signed PDFs can be password-protected on Windows to prevent modification, or compressed if they're large for email. Both tools are free and browser-based.
