How to Split a PDF on Chromebook (Free, No App Needed)
Extract pages and split PDFs on Chromebook in Chrome — no Linux, no Android apps. Free, specify page ranges, download as ZIP.
Chromebooks run everything in Chrome — which means FixMyPDF's browser-based split tool is one of the best PDF splitting options available on Chrome OS. No apps to install, no Linux setup, just enter your page ranges and download.
Open the Split Tool in Chrome
On your Chromebook, go to fixmypdf.in/tools/split in Chrome. Click "Select PDF" to open the Chrome OS file picker. Select your PDF from Downloads or Google Drive.
Enter Page Ranges
Type your ranges in the input: "1-10" splits out the first 10 pages, "5, 10, 15" extracts those three individual pages, "1-5, 6-10" produces two files. The format matches what Chrome's own print dialog uses — familiar if you've printed specific pages before.
Download and Extract ZIP
Click "Split PDF" — output files download as a ZIP to your Downloads folder. In the Files app, click the ZIP to open it (Chrome OS handles ZIPs natively — no app needed). The individual PDF files appear and can be saved to Google Drive or shared.
Splitting PDFs for Google Classroom
Teachers often need to split a large PDF handout into individual sections for different student groups. Students on Chromebooks can split PDFs for assignments — extract only the pages assigned to them from a larger document. Both workflows work in Chrome with no setup.
ZIP Extraction on Chromebook
Chrome OS can open ZIP files natively from the Files app — click the ZIP, and the contents appear in a virtual folder. Drag individual PDFs from the ZIP to Google Drive or your Downloads folder. No need to install a separate unzip app.
Works on All Chromebook Models
Any Chromebook with Chrome 80 or later works — this covers all Chromebooks from 2019 onwards. Older Chromebooks (pre-2019 with Chrome 79 or earlier) may need to update Chrome first: Settings → About Chrome OS → Check for Updates.
More Chromebook PDF Tools
After splitting, compress each section for upload to portals with file size limits, or fix rotation if scan pages came out sideways. All free, all in Chrome.
